At its core, Fly8 was a "frame-rate first" simulator. While other games focused on beautiful cockpit graphics and bitmapped textures, Fly8 used wireframe or flat-shaded polygons. The primary objective was to provide a high-speed, networked multiplayer flight experience. It was designed to run smoothly even on slower machines (like 386s) where more "bloated" simulators would crawl. It featured various aircraft, including the F-16 and the Harrier (which could perform vertical take-offs). It included combat elements, allowing players to engage in dogfights across a network.
