Lemmings is an award-winning game of the 90’s and a trendsetter in the puzzle genre. This game is based on ‘lemmings’ who are simple creatures and they walk to get to a safe place. The player has to help the lemmings overcome the obstacles like steep-drops, closed-pathways, etc. The obstacles are designed as simple puzzles, which need to be solved within a time-limit. ‘Lemmings’ has 120 levels and the requirements go up in each higher level. The game is played in side-view and the controls involve the pointer only. There are 8 different functions below the screen like digging, floating, bashing, etc. The user has to select each lemming for each function by clicking on them individually.
The lemming will start doing the assigned function and change the landscape to create a safe path. The target is to guide the lemmings to the exit safely. The total number of lemmings dropped and the number of lemmings, which need to be saved increases with the levels. So the game is a pretty fast-paced puzzle game. The game was designed by DMA Design Limited and it was adopted on countless platforms as it grew popular. In 1996, Lemmings was declared as the eighth greatest game for the future generation and one of the top game in Amstrad-Action history. ‘Lemmings’ has inspired a number of sequels and spin-offs in the action-platform category. Lemmings is a very logical game and never gets old enough to ever get bored.
