Description
Mixed-Up Mother Goose (1991 edition) is a classic educational graphic adventure game created by Roberta Williams and developed/published by Sierra On-Line.
While the game originally debuted in 1987 with EGA graphics, the 1991 release was a ground-up remake created for Sierra's SCI1 engine. This version was
groundbreaking because it was released on CD-ROM with full digital human voice acting and enhanced VGA graphics (256 colors), making it one of the very first multimedia
games designed specifically for young children.
One night while tucked in bed, the player character is magically whisked away by Mother Goose on her flying goose to Mother Goose Land.
Upon arrival, Mother Goose explains that a sudden magical mishap has scrambled all of the classic nursery rhymes. Key objects and characters have been scattered
across the land, leaving the inhabitants confused. Your job as a child hero is to explore the kingdom, find the missing items, return them to their rightful owners, and help
everyone finish their rhymes!
Unlike traditional Sierra adventure games (King's Quest, Space Quest) which featured complex puzzles and permadeath, Mixed-Up Mother Goose was built specifically
to be kid-friendly, non-violent, and stress-free:
Players select an avatar (boy or girl with customizable appearance/skin tone) and navigate the world using simple point-and-click or arrow keys.
You wander around Mother Goose Land searching for items lying on the ground (e.g., a pail, a candlestick, a ladder, a crook, a pail of water, or a lost sheep).
You can only hold one item at a time.
When you bring the correct item to the right character (e.g., bringing the pail of water to Jack and Jill, or the candlestick to Little Jack Horner), an animated
nursery rhyme song plays as your reward. You cannot die, get stuck permanently, or lose. If you pick up the wrong item, you can drop it anywhere or exchange it
with another item on the map. Every time you start a new game, the items are randomly distributed across the map, giving the game great replay value for young kids.
