Description
It was primarily distributed for free during Christmas in 1993, shortly before the release of "Alone in the Dark 2." It was often included on a single floppy disk, sometimes in
special golden packaging, and later bundled with CD-ROM versions of both the original "Alone in the Dark" and "Alone in the Dark 2."
Unlike the more action-oriented "Alone in the Dark" series, "Jack in the Dark" is a pure adventure game focused entirely on puzzles, with no combat. It features a 3rd-person
perspective with cinematic camera angles, similar to its larger brethren.
You play as Grace Saunders, a young child who is also a character in "Alone in the Dark 2." The story takes place on Halloween. Grace enters a small toy store after dark and gets
locked inside. The toys in the store come alive, and Grace's mission is to save Santa Claus from an evil Jack-in-the-Box (a character clearly related to the villain, One-Eyed Jack,
from "Alone in the Dark 2").
The core gameplay involves exploring the toy store, finding objects, and using them to solve various puzzles to progress. It's a short experience, often completable in about 15-30
minutes, but it provided a fun, spooky, and puzzle-centric diversion.
It uses the same polygonal engine as the "Alone in the Dark" series, showcasing Infogrames' pioneering 3D graphics for its time.
