Description
Welcome to the second part of Interplay's adaptation of "The Lord of the Rings" for the personal computer, "The Two Towers". This game is a sequel to the first game in
this series, "Lord of the Rings, Volume One", which was published by Interplay in December 1990.
"The Two Towers" is meant to serve as a sequel to the original "Lord of the Rings" game, but it is also should be playable by those who have not played the original
game, or those who have not read J.R.R. Tolkien's epic saga. The one hundredth anniversary of J.R.R. Tolkien is in 1992, and as with all birthdays, it's a cause to
celebrate.
The gameplay is similar to its predecessor, featuring a top-down perspective. Players control multiple characters from the book. The game's narrative splits into several journeys,
reflecting the book's structure, and accordingly, the player switches between different controllable parties.
While the ultimate goal of the series was to reach Mount Doom and destroy the One Ring, this specific goal was not fully accomplished within "Volume II," as the final scenes were
intended for a planned "Volume III" that was ultimately canceled. The game features character attributes like dexterity, endurance, life points, strength, luck, and willpower,
along with active skills (e.g., Climb, Detect Traps, Hide) and passive lore skills. Combat is turn-based, where you select "Attack" and then a target from a menu.
The game allows for non-canonical NPCs to join the party and features various side quests.
