Worlds of Ultima 2: Martian Dreams

While all games are made of assumptions, few games set themselves apart with a completely new storyline. The Worlds of Ultima 2: Martian Dreams is set in the 19th century with all the Sci-fi philosophy of the time. In 1893, Astronomer Percival Lowell has created a space cannon which can fire a capsule into space specifically Mars. Catastrophy struck when the capsule was fired a day earlier with the members of Congress inside it. Whilst these important minds are trapped in the red planet, the player has to find a way to bring them back to Earth before they are lost. Worlds of Ultima 2: Martian Dreams is a very well-researched game as it deliberately includes many top scientists like Madam Curie, Thomas Edison, Harrison Wells, etc. accurately. The gameplay involves a lot of conversations which can be very engaging if the player has an appetite for science and philosophy. Use of time machine and imaginary Martian terrain coupled with the steam-powered technology of the time draws an awe-inspiring world in the player's mind. The player has to solve the mystery with the help of these great minds, lead them through deadly Martian terrain and ultimately, find what went wrong. Worlds of Ultima 2: Martian Dreams is setup in DOS with a top-down view. Origin Systems has made sure that their successful endeavor Ultima I has a successful sequel. The game needs the player to interact apart from basic keys based movement. The graphics are basically just like sci-fi movies of the time. What makes the Ultima series truly interesting is the effort put in to make science lovers feel the aura of the greatest minds and wild imaginations of the old world.
