Atari Games Corporation was a subsidiary of Time Warner Communications. It was founded in 1985 after Time Warner sold the console and computer divisions of Atari, Inc. (which continued operations as Atari Corporation). Atari Games Corporation kept Atari's arcade business.
Warner Communications sold off its controlling interest to Namco in 1985 (which were bought back by Atari employees in 1986). At this time, the company founded Tengen, Inc. to get foot into the console market.
Time Warner bought the controlling interest back in 1993 and made the company a subsidiary of Time Warner Interactive, Inc.. In 1996 it was sold to WMS Industries which made it a subsidiary or Midway Games, Inc. and renamed it to Midway Games West, Inc. in 1999.
It remained in the arcade business until 2001 and was closed in 2003. However, the entity was not dissolved until 2013 (and, along with the rest of Midway, became property of Warner Bros. Entertainment in 2009).

Description
Rampart (1990) is an influential arcade classic developed and published by Atari Games, which was subsequently ported to MS-DOS in 1992 (published by Electronic Arts).
It is widely regarded as a pioneer in the gaming world because it combined action, strategy, and puzzle mechanics long before "Tower Defense" became a formalized genre.
Rampart is structured around a fast-paced, highly addictive phase-based gameplay loop:
Place Cannons: At the start of a round, you place a limited number of cannons inside your fortified area.
Combat Phase: Enemy ships appear off the coast. You control a target reticle to fire your cannons in real-time, aiming to destroy the ships before they destroy your castle walls or land troops.
Repair Phase: After the bombardment ends, you are given a strict time limit (usually 10–15 seconds) to repair your damaged fortress walls using randomly generated, Tetris-like wall pieces.
The Catch: To survive to the next round, your wall pieces must completely enclose at least one castle home base. If your perimeter has even a one-block gap when time runs out, you lose that territory/castle.
Expand & Repeat: If you successfully close your walls, any extra castles you managed to surround become yours, allowing you to place even more cannons in the next turn.
By forcing players to build defenses, protect a core base, fight off waves of incoming enemies, and rebuild between waves, Rampart laid the foundational mechanics for modern real-time strategy and tower defense games.
Combining fast-paced arcade shooting with frantic, spatial puzzle-solving under a tight countdown created an intense gameplay experience.
