Atari Games Corporation was a subsidiary of Time Warner Communications. It was founded in 1985 after Time Warner sold the console and computer divisions of Atari, Inc. (which continued operations as Atari Corporation). Atari Games Corporation kept Atari's arcade business. Warner Communications sold off its controlling interest to Namco in 1985 (which were bought back by Atari employees in 1986). At this time, the company founded Tengen, Inc. to get foot into the console market. Time Warner bought the controlling interest back in 1993 and made the company a subsidiary of Time Warner Interactive, Inc.. In 1996 it was sold to WMS Industries which made it a subsidiary or Midway Games, Inc. and renamed it to Midway Games West, Inc. in 1999. It remained in the arcade business until 2001 and was closed in 2003. However, the entity was not dissolved until 2013 (and, along with the rest of Midway, became property of Warner Bros. Entertainment in 2009).

Description

World of fantasy has always allured masses. Adding to the list of yet another fantasy-based adventure, Gauntlet is a treat for those who are a lover of this genre. The game consists of four men namely Thor, the warrior, Thyra – a Valkyrie, Merlin – a wizard and Questor, an Elf. The player can choose any one amongst these four. Each character has a special power as well as a weakness like Thor is excellent in hand to hand combat, the Valkyrie has a good armor, the wizard is a powerful magician and Elf is fastest in movement. After choosing, the gamer has to combat many enemies as well as solve mazes. The blocks are no less, you are occasionally confronted by ghosts, demons, sorcerers, thieves, grunts, and demons. The most lethal of them all is Death who is not only difficult to destroy but also drain your health completely. The player has to be vigilant enough to keep his health from hitting zero, after which he dies. The health meter is displayed on top of the screen. Gauntlet is a superbly set game with amazing gameplay and graphics which compliments the plot. The game can be controlled using mouse and joystick used for firing and spreading the magic. Filled with exciting twists and turns along with an engrossing gameplay, the game won’t fail to spread its spell of magic on the gamers, hooking them the screen throughout the game.
