The Best Casino Games Based on Console Classics

The worlds of film and computer games have liberally ‘been inspired’ by each other, hence why so many popular franchises make the crossover from TV screen to silver screen, and vice versa.

A select few have even been the focus of casino games, with players able to step into the shoes of their favourite characters as they look to land a cash prize.

Intrigued? Here’s four of the best.

Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Secret of the Sword

The intrepid heroine has been adventuring in all four corners of the globe for more than two decades; who can forget the lo-fi tiger attack in Tomb Raider 2, released way back in 1997! The latest outing, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, hit the shelves in 2018, and proved that there is plenty of mileage left yet in this classic series.

The popularity of the Lara Croft franchise has spawned numerous movies, firstly starring Angelina Jolie before being re-booted with Alicia Vikander in the title role, and various other takes on the ever-popular character.

One such example is Secret of the Sword, a slot game that acts as a standalone piece in the Tomb Raider chronology.

You can win real cash prizes by revealing the passport symbol on the reels, which unlocks a special side game, while also earning payouts for matching three or more of the Lara Croft inspired symbols.

Terminator 2

It started life as a smash-hit movie, with Arnold Schwarzenegger turning over a new leaf as the Terminator to help Sarah Connor take down the dastardly T-1000.

This spawned Terminator 2 the game, which was released to critical acclaim on such retro classics as the Amiga 500, NES and Sega Game Gear. The game was revolutionary in that it featured fully licensed clips from the film itself, which was a unique touch back in the early 1990s.

Not ones to miss out, the casino industry has also cashed in, with software firm Microgaming creating their own Terminator 2 slot game based on the original movie.

The beauty of spinning the reels and winning is just enough to keep players from getting freaked out by Robert Patrick’s cold, staring eyes….

Hitman

For the most part, console shoot-em-ups have focused on bombastic blitzkrieg tactics, where basically the louder the bang the more enjoyable the ride.

But Hitman, the sniper series originated by Danish firm IO Interactive, changed all that. Here the emphasis was on stealth, with bonuses for taking out your targets in as quiet and damage-free ways as possible.

The game became a film, such was its success, and the concept was latterly turned into a slot game as well.

Available at a bunch of popular sites like LeoVegas, players take on the role of Agent 47 in an immersive title from Microgaming that features chilling video sequences and audio snippets.

Resident Evil

If you don’t mind a scare as you’re spinning the reels, then the Resident Evil slot game might be right up your street.

Based on the Japanese series Biohazard and first released in the UK back in 1996, the Resident Evil franchise follows a range of different characters as they battle for survival in an apocalyptic world dominated by zombies, monsters and all sorts of undead rascals.

The series spawned a pretty ropey collection of movies, but the slot game lives on thanks to the innovation and action-packed thrill ride that it delivers.
