Description
Space Miner (1983) is an early MS-DOS arcade shooter developed and published by Resolution Software. Created during the formative years of the IBM PC platform (shortly after the release of
the original IBM 5150), it stands as a classic piece of early 1980s PC shareware/indie history.
The premise combines elements of classic arcade space titles like Asteroids and Defender. You pilot a spacecraft navigating through space field sectors. Your main objective is to maneuver
your ship to collect floating minerals, ore, and power-up crates using an onboard collection mechanic/robotic arm. While collecting resources, you must continuously shoot down or dodge
incoming alien craft and space hazards. Levels aren't completed just by destroying enemies; you must safely navigate to meet up with a Mother Ship to deposit your collected minerals
before moving to the next stage.
Built for early CGA (Color Graphics Adapter) monitors and monochrome displays. It features chunky, low-resolution sprites and top-down step-based grid movement typical of early 1980s PC
titles. Rather than smooth scrolling, the game uses a relatively zoomed-in perspective that forces players to stay alert as enemy craft enter the screen quickly. Features classic
single-channel PC Speaker audio for sound effects (laser blasts, explosions) and simple chiptune melodies.
