Noid

Hammer Technologies grouped part of the members of Digital Dreams Multimedia and NoriaWorks Entertainment. The biggest publication of Hammer was undoubtedly the DIV Games Studio, a programming environment for creating video games. The release of this product, which occurred during 1998, was a resounding sales success and attracted a good number of users wanting to create games but that did not have the knowledge needed to use more general languages like, for example, C or C++. Other notable titles were Snow Wave: Avalanche, Tie Break Tenis 98 and Tokenkai. Since 1999, Hammer began to change its development policy toward more complex productions and, of course, with a longer production period. The first example of this new style was embodied in a project which never saw the light, Neon Angel, a futuristic 3D video adventure with promising looks. But it was cancelled due to the demise of the company.

Description

Noid is an action game that was released worldwide in 2001. The game was developed by Hammer technologies and runs on the DOS platform. Noid is a paddle game where one must save a bouncing ping pong ball from falling. Besides, there are several bricks on the screen that keep breaking apart or simply falling down. The player needs to save the ball from being derailed by these bricks.
There are powerups available such as dual guns which the player can use to decimate the bricks. The background is blue with bricks of several colors appearing on the screen. The paddle is brown, however, changes it’s color to yellow once the player gets the dual guns power up.
The background color changes at each level. The number of ping pong balls also increase, along with an increased number of bricks raining down and available powerups. The available bonuses appear in different colors and are marked with letters, however, there is no guide available to the user to get familiarized with their uses. It’s only from application in the game that the purpose of these bonus items can be revealed. The paddle can be moved from side to side using the keyboard. The game has colorful graphics and decent animation.
The advanced levels in the game are quite challenging as it becomes difficult to keep track of the balls amidst the shower of bricks and the falling bonuses. Noid can be considered a basic, but more visually appealing version of Araknoid that can keep the player interested for several levels.
