If you are looking for chaos and gore-filled combat, Hotline Miami might just be the perfect choice for you. Hotline Miami is a top-down shooter filled with brutal gunplay that puts you in the shoes of a man who wants to eliminate a shady underworld organization, taking commands from unknown voices on his voice mails.
The game is filled to the brim with intense gunplay and wild action that keeps you going with a dose of adrenaline rushing through your body. There’s no to relax in these crime-infested streets of the old 80s Miami, you have to be on top of your reflex game to survive through this endless bloodshed.
Road Rage
Since we are on the topic of chaos, I can’t help but mention Road Rage, one of my favorite retro games on this list. Road Rage, as the name already indicates takes inspiration from the road rage incidents of daily life and gives it an exaggerated touch of chaos, where you try to take down other riders off their bikes with a slew of weapons.
It’s a rare combination of racing and action mixed together with intense combat on bikes. I remember playing this game for hours as a kid, trying to bring those nasty bikers down with my nunchuck. The game has gotten a bit old in terms of graphics but the action and thrill are still there. And since you can buy Road Rage for under $10, I think it's worth a shot.
Earthworm Jim
Many of us were not even born when this gem of platforming title was released back in 94 but we sure remember this title. It was quite a big hit back in the days for its exciting platforming adventure, fun shooting gameplay, and hilarious comedy!
This run and gun 2D platformer has been a real inspiration for many platforming games and for the very right reasons. Earthworm Jim kept us hooked to our screens for hours of fun gameplay. Of course, there’s been a ton of great platformers released lately but if you are into retro games, this one is for you.
The Legend of Zelda
The Legend of Zelda is a genre-defining title that has inspired hundreds of great games due to its best-in-class open-world exploration. The game offers a vast appealing world with great attention to detail. Every encounter in the game feels unique and filled with life, which makes you feel like a part of the world and not an outsider or someone around whom the whole game revolves.
It’s been a while since the game has been out and surely the time has affected the game but it still remains a great choice for games to play in 2022, at least for the sake of old-school experience that has given birth to many modern titles.
Crazy Taxi
If you are not a big fan of bikes and fighting, well you might want to start working as a taxi driver in the bustling streets of different real-life inspired cities. Trying to make an honest living, you have to take as many passengers as you can to their destination as fast as you can.
Crazy Taxi is one of the most innovative car driving games to ever exist, it's easy to learn but hard to master gameplay mechanics keep you wanting more and more. You can pull epic stunts with the passenger on your side and if you manage to pull it well, you might even get a tip. And while the game has got a sequel, I would recommend you give the classic a try!
