Description
Test Drive II: The Duel, released in 1989, is a milestone in racing history. Developed by Distinctive Software, Inc. (DSI)—the team that would eventually become EA Canada
and create the Need for Speed series—this game took the foundation of the first Test Drive and turned it into a high-stakes competitive rivalry.
Unlike the first game, which was mostly a solo time trial, the sequel introduced a computer-controlled rival. Your goal is to race from point A to point B across several
stages, beating your opponent's time while avoiding:
- Civilian Traffic: Slow-moving cars that appear suddenly around bends.
- The Police: If you go too fast, a patrol car will give chase. You have to outrun them or pull over and pay a fine (which costs you precious time).
- Environmental Deaths: Crashing into a cliffside or falling off a mountain ledge results in a spectacular "cracked windshield" animation and the loss of a life.
The base game centered on the ultimate late-80s supercar showdown: Ferrari F40, Porsche 959.
You had to choose your "weapon" and manage the realistic cockpit view, which included a working speedometer, tachometer, and a radar detector that beeped when police were
nearby.

Awesome racing game, my favorite until the Need For Speed series. Very similar albeit much older.
