Description
Spectre VR (1993), developed by Velocity Development and Green Dragon Creations, is an iconic early 3D wireframe network action
game and the enhanced successor to the original 1991 Macintosh/DOS hit Spectre.
Set in a virtual Cyberspace environment strongly inspired by the movie TRON and classic arcade games like Battlezone, Spectre VR
stood out in 1993 as one of the premier LAN multiplayer tank combat experiences on PC.
You pilot a futuristic, highly agile hover-tank in a flat, geometric arena filled with neon-colored polyhedral structures,
teleporters, wind tunnels, and hostile enemy tanks.
In single-player mode, your primary goal across numbered levels (sectors) is to collect glowing flags scattered across the map
while destroying defensive enemy tanks and avoiding lethal turrets and acid pools.
Before entering the arena, you choose from preset tank classes (like the fast Speedy, balanced Good Stuff, or heavily armored Heavy
Armor) or build a custom tank by allocating power points between: Armor / Shields, Top Speed & Acceleration, Ammo Capacity & Weapon
Power.
Spectre VR ("VR" standing for Virtual Reality) significantly expanded on its predecessor by introducing multiple distinctly themed
game modes:
Classic Spectre: The original flag-collecting hunt against waves of AI tanks.
Cyber-Tectmatics / Obstacle Courses: Maze-like levels emphasizing navigation, teleporters, jumping pads, and environmental hazards.
Capture the Flag (CTF): Team-based battle where red and blue teams fight to infiltrate the opponent's base, steal their flag, and return it to home base.
Arena / Deathmatch: Pure free-for-all survival combat.
