Video games through the ages: How they have changed over time

Whether we like it or not, one cannot help but recognize that games have changed dramatically over the years. The technology on which they are built and played has made great strides. As a result, the games we know and love have transformed into works of art of staggering beauty.

Here is a sampling of some games that have had a tremendous change in graphics and more over the years.

SimCity (1989) vs SimCity 6 (2016)

Like The Sims, SimCity was a great escapist game that put God-like powers in your hands to create and craft the lives of computer-generated people.

Sprawling metropolises and magnificent skyscrapers replaced overhead views.

Mortal Kombat (1992) vs Mortal Kombat 11 (2019)

When it comes to beat 'em ups, Mortal Kombat has always been the goriest, grotesque, and over-the-top fighting game around.

Graphical improvements over the years have made this shock value even more impressive and sometimes more exhilarating.

The Elder Scrolls: Arena (1994) vs The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (2011)

Elder Scrolls is certainly a classic RPG series, and it is fair to say that The Elder Scrolls VI is one of the most anticipated games.

What amazes us, however, is not only how far the series has come but also the fact that Skyrim came out eight years ago. Where does the time go? We are not sure if we have completed the actual game, let alone all the subsequent versions.

The Sims (2000) vs. The Sims 4: StrangerVille (2019)

If you have ever found your life a bit boring and longed for some escapism, then The Sims was the perfect outlet. Why live your mundane 9-to-5 life when you can force little pixels to do it instead.

Having little computers do all your bidding has always been fun, and The Sims is still as popular as ever, only much nicer but no less crazy.

Mafia (2002) vs. Mafia Definitive Edition (2020)

2K Games recently unveiled Mafia Trilogy and Mafia Definitive Edition. Remastered versions of the classic Mafia games.

The updated versions of the games show the progress the graphics have made and make us excited for the future of these games.

Super Mario Bros. (1985) vs. Super Mario Odyssey (2017)

Nintendo is not necessarily known for producing graphically cutting-edge games, but that does not mean Mario has not come a long way.

The original Super Mario Bros. was beloved in 1985 on the Nintendo Entertainment System. In the modern era, thanks to the Nintendo Switch, you can take Mario games with you wherever you are. Things are also much better! We loved Super Mario Odyssey when we reviewed it in 2017, and more and more Mario games are popping up.

Grand Theft Auto (1997) vs. GTA V (2013)

According to Guinness World Records 2008 and 2009, the original GTA games were considered the most controversial video game in history.

The original GTA was considered unnecessarily violent and vulgar despite being a top-down game. Not much has changed, but neither has the popularity.

Over the years, GTA has evolved into a bigger and better sandbox and open-world experience, with even more criminal exploits to enjoy. GTA V came out in 2013 to critical acclaim, but when it arrived on PC a couple of years later, it also opened the door to an even deeper overhaul with graphics mods that make the world of San Andreas even more stunning.

FIFA International Soccer (1993) vs. FIFA 20 (2019)

FIFA was born in 1993 and was initially available for SNES, Sega Mega Drive, Master System, and Game Boy. Its popularity was such that it topped the game charts for six months in the UK and continued to grow as the years went by.

More recent FIFA games have been launched with some initial problems, but there is no denying how much the game has changed visually over the past two decades.

Not only videogames

The graphics of online video games have improved over the years and also those of online casinos.

In the late 1990s, was launched the first poker room, Planet Poker, and online casinos exceeded 700. But the significant rise of online betting and casinos began with the advent of the new millennium.

Finally, in recent years, the best online casinos have refined their offerings by meeting the needs of an increasingly diverse and demanding public.

If you are a gambling enthusiast, you have probably read the LeoVegas reviews, which is a multiple award-winning online casino famous for the intuitive user experience that users adore. LeoVegas is an excellent example of innovation in online casinos: it offers incredible bonuses, sports betting, the latest casino games on the market, including live and mobile, and fantastic promotion campaigns.
