The Seven Spirits of Ra
It was the eleventh year of the reign of the Pharaoh Osiris, lord of the Upper and Lower
Kingdoms. Set, the god of darkness, envied the love the people held for their good king.
He put it into the mind of his pries Harumheb to conspire with the quards of the Pharaoh.
Deceived by Harumheb, the quards slew Osiris. Harumheb then cut the body of Osiris
into pieces and scattered it through the land, where it was devoured by the beasts of the
field and the birds of the air. Now the ka spirit of Osiris, deprived of the rites of burial,
stands at the entrance to the Duad, the Land of the Dead. Only by gaining the attributes of the
creatures who consumed his body can Osiris find the path to salvation and emerge victorious
in life beyond death.
Macrocom created ICON: Quest for the Ring (1984), one of the earlier examples of an action role-playing game, as well as its follow-up The Seven Spirits of Ra (1987). The company was notable for using a tweaked text mode that allowed for seemingly 320x200x16-color graphics on any CGA card.
