Description

THE QUEST OF KWIRK'S CASTLE is an adventure and puzzle game, developed and published by the German company JME Engineering. It was released in 1991 on the DOS platform. The game has 61 levels in total.
To play the game, the player needs to help the main protagonist Kirk to navigate a series of mazes by moving around and arranging crates. The crates could either be a hindrance on some levels, while in certain others could be an important tool for navigation. At the start of the game, the player is presented with two gaming modes, Heading out and Going up.
On choosing the Heading up mode, the player will come across a flight of stairs at the start and end of each level. This mode has three difficulty levels, each with up to 10 playing levels. The Heading out mode offers an open tunnel that the player needs to take to reach the next level. There are up to 31 levels in the Heading out mode, but only one difficulty level. However, any of the levels are directly accessible to the player from the start menu. At each level, the game presents a puzzle Kirk needs to solve to reach the exit. The puzzles are in the form of crates which need to be positioned accordingly to help Kirk reach the exit. The crates are accompanied by Gearwheels, and the player needs to rotate them to arrange the crates. The puzzles can sometimes lead the player to a dead-end, with no way to retreat or move in another direction. In such a scenario, the player has the option to restart the level and start at the very beginning of the level.
There is no time limit to complete a level. The game might also present scenarios, where two or more other characters are introduced in the game, and they must all work together with Kirk to solve a level and reach the exit.
