Description

Hex is a strategy game released in the United States in 1993. It runs on the DOS platform. It is the computerized version of a board game of the same name. It comprises a rhombus board divided into 11* 11 hollow hexagonal grids, with each side marked black or white. Like chess, both sides take turns placing pieces on the board.
The white player gets to make the first move. The goal is to place the pieces in a way they form a uniform sequence connecting the two-colored sides. The game can be played against a computer-generated opponent or against another player. There is a demo mode available where the player can familiarise themselves with the rules by watching two computer-generated opponents play against each other. The game background is black, and the grids are marked in red. Hex is more fun when played with another human opponent as the computer is almost too competent at the game which often results in a standstill. The game is a hit among the fans of the board game as it eliminates the hassle of having to handle the many board pieces. It can be played using the keyboard or the mouse. The controls are displayed at the top of the screen. On the keyboard W and B are for placing pieces. With the mouse, the player needs to move the cursor to the desired spot on the board to place the piece. The player gets a top-view perspective. Hex was later made available on Atari ST, Amiga, and various other platforms.
