Description
Heavy Metal is a military action game developed and published by Access Software, Inc. The game was released in 1989 in the United States and runs on DOS, Amiga, and various
other platforms.
Heavy metal tries to recreate three different action games from different genres into one. The player starts off as a cadet and moves up the ranks as the game progresses.
With each promotion, the player gets to perform a different role and handle a different war vehicle. They start off as a rookie with very limited responsibilities and gradually
move to the ultimate elite position of a tactical genius. To accurately represent this change of role, the game offers three different kinds of combat simulations. In one of the
simulations, the player gets a first-person perspective into the battlefield where they need to shoot at enemies, both Ariel and on the ground. The second simulation provides a
third-person perspective where the player needs to drive the vehicle into the desert while shooting at enemies and obstacles. Ariel bombing and enemy fire from helicopters are
to be avoided during the operation. The third simulation, which signifies the change to rank to a tactical commander is offered to the player upon collecting 5,000 points in each
gaming mode. On attaining the role, the player gets a first-person perspective into the battleground from a tank’s cockpit. Instead of performing acts themselves, they get to
command the gunner and driver to carry out a successful operation. The game can be played using the keyboard.
