Gloomstein is an action game that was developed and published by Acord Games in 2010. It belongs to the
First-person shooter or the FPS genre of shooter video games, where the player controls the main protagonist
in the game and gets to experience the action from the perspective of the protagonist.
Gloomstein was originally released as an Addon WAD for Doom. It uses the DOOM engine and works on both
the DOOM 1.666 and Ultimate Doom. However, in Gloomstein, new menu screens and title screens have been
introduced, making it almost a new and complete game in itself. Gloomstein has a lot of characters from
Wolfstein, which is a World War II-inspired video game series developed by Max software.
The Wolfstein characters that appear in Gloomstein are Pacman, characters from Wolf3D, two characters from Doom2,
a character from Heretic, and Captain Zoom. Captain Zoom plays the protagonist in the game and the player needs
to navigate the levels of the three-dimensional gaming environment while viewing the game scene through his eyes.
The game consists of three episodes, each having 9 levels. The player has to help caption Zoom cross all the
levels to win the game, and his vital information is displayed in the Status bar. Revisions were made to the
intermission screen in 2018.
Like all games in the Doom series, Gloomstein is known for its gory and violent scenes, hellish imagery,
and dark humor. It also has superior graphics compared to its predecessors owing to advancements in gaming
technology in the late 2000s.
