Aces of the Deep
Aces of the Deep is a 1994 DOS game made by Dynamix. You are the German submarine commander of a U boat platoon serving Hitler in the Atlantic ocean. The graphics of the game is pretty good for an MS-DOS Game. The game consists of 20 aircraft and ships whose graphics are outstanding. At the start of the game, you play against the allied force's ships which are not in sync. You can easily destroy their battleships. The game begins in the year 1939, 1940. The boats that you can sink are going moderate, the only ship which is fast is the 22-knot speed troop. As the game progresses the ships become faster and the coordination between the allied forces increases. Luckily, your ships and aircraft get their share of improvement too. The game has a realism setting. You can check the map and see your location in the Atlantic ocean easily. The map also shows the enemy submarines and your other platoons.
The game has different modes i.e. single mission mode, historic mission mode and the single player career mode. The single mission mode is a quick mission where you can attack the convoy of the enemy, a task force of enemy which includes cruisers and battleships.
In the single-player career mission mode, you get to play different types of mission which gets harder with every level. The history mission lets you play as the greatest German platoon commanders and their famous missions. You get to see how they overcome their difficulties and defeated the allies.
The reality mode is really something where it takes at least 13 minutes to reload a torpedo. Aces of the deep is really one of the best submarine game of its time.
Dynamix Inc. was located in Eugene, Oregon. Originally, the company was named Software Entertainment Company, which was started by Jeff Tunnell and Damon Slye, two graduates from the University of Oregon. The games weren't making enough money to keep Dynamix going, and in August 1990 the company was sold to Sierra On-Line.
