With nearly 500 unique titles to choose from, the PS5 offers plenty of variety in its game library. Whether you want to enjoy a single-player title or prefer to play games with friends, chances are there’s a perfect game to suit your style of play.

Finding that game can be a bit tedious though, which is why we’ve put together seven of the best PS5 games currently available, sorted by alphabetical order for your convenience. All of the games featured below have received both critical and commercial acclaim, with each entry possessing a minimum Metacritic score of 85%.

Demon’s Souls

Arguably the PS5’s biggest launch title, Demon’s Souls was released in November of 2020. It’s a remake of the original title released for the PS3 in 2008. Developed by Bluepoint Games in collaboration with Playstation’s Japan Studio, the 2020 version has received universal praise for its technical quality and visual fidelity.

Demon’s Souls takes place in Boletaria, a cursed land plagued by all manner of beasts, monsters, and demons. It’s an action roleplaying game (RPG) complete with massive vistas and unforgiving combat mechanics.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is the first game in a series of games aimed at remaking the 1997 classic Final Fantasy VII. For the sake of clarity, it’s important to note that the PS4 version is called Final Fantasy VII Remake, while the PS5 version is titled Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade.

Players take on the role of Cloud Strife, an ex-soldier who joins an eco-terrorist group to take on an evil corporation. Compared to the original Final Fantasy VII, Remake Intergrade features an expanded story, new locations, and a complete transformation in terms of graphics, combat, and exploration.

God of War

If you own a PS4, chances are you already own God of War. It was 2018’s most successful console release, one of the highest-rated games on Metacritic and the highest-selling game on any console for that year. It won numerous awards, including several ‘Game of the Year’ awards from multiple media outlets and awards shows.

God of War’s PS5 version boasts a 60 FPS upgrade from the original’s 30 FPS. It also upgrades the resolution from 1080p to 2160p, offering crisp 4K visuals via checkerboard resolution technology. Loading times are also greatly improved, with less than half the average loading time for any scenario.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart

Released in early June of 2021, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is the sixteenth installment in one of Playstation’s longest-running exclusive series. It currently holds a Metacritic rating of 88%, narrowly beating Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut and The Last of Us Part II to make it on to our list.

From the outset, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart was designed to showcase the capabilities of the PS5. In particular, the game uses the PS5’s SSD and DualSense wireless controllers to great effect; loading times are almost non-existent and the smooth controls make platforming a truly satisfying experience.

Returnal

Returnal is a PS5-exclusive title developed by Housemarque. The game is a third-person shooter with roguelike elements, meaning that death is a game mechanic tied to overall progression. Basically, every time your character dies the game will reset your level progress, whilst retaining any permanent upgrades you picked up prior to death.

The challenging combat and jaw-dropping visuals have been universally praised, while the death mechanic has received somewhat mixed feedback. While some players welcome the intense pressure it brings to the game, others have struggled to adapt to what they deem is a rather harsh mechanic. We’ll leave it up to you to decide if Returnal sounds like your cup of tea.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a fun open-world romp featuring a gorgeous, fully rendered New York City where players can run, jump, swing, and slide to their heart’s content. With an 85% rating on Metacritic and over 6 million lifetime sales, Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a worthy successor to 2018’s Spider-Man (the best-selling PS4 game of all time).

Yet another exclusive for Playstation owners, Spider-Man: Miles Morales also builds on the success of the 2018 animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse. Replacing Peter Parker with the titular character, Miles Morales breathes new life into one of Marvel’s oldest and well-known characters.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2

The 2021 remaster of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 marks 22 years since the release of the original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. Thanks to developers at Vicarious Visions, modern audiences can now enjoy everyone’s favorite skateboarding franchise.

Remakes and remasters appear to be all the rage at the moment. While some remakes don’t really justify a remastered price tag, rest assured that the games on this list are definitely worth the entrance fee. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 is the fastest-selling game in the franchise and currently holds a 90% average on Metacritic.
