Ultimate Cards

Ultimate Cards, released in 1992 by Magicode, Inc., is a quintessential example of the "all-in-one" card game compilations that were incredibly popular in the early 90s.
While it wasn't a high-budget blockbuster, it was a staple on shareware disks and "100-in-1" CD-ROMs of the era.
The goal is entirely dependent on which card game you select from the main menu. The package was designed to be a digital "Hoyle’s" manual, providing a variety of experiences ranging from solo puzzles to simulated casino gambling.
Most versions included:
- Solitaire (Multiple variants): The goal is to move all cards to the foundation piles (usually by suit and in ascending order).
- Blackjack: The goal is to beat the dealer by getting as close to 21 as possible without going over.
- Poker: The goal is to build the best hand possible to win "virtual" chips against computer-controlled opponents.
- Hearts / Bridge / Gin Rummy: Traditional trick-taking or meld-building games where you aim for the highest score (or lowest, in the case of Hearts).
For 1992, the big selling point was full mouse support. While that sounds basic today, many earlier DOS card games forced you to use arrow keys and text commands. Magicode prioritized a "point-and-click" experience that felt modern. It utilized 256-color VGA graphics, giving the cards a crisp, readable look and allowing for custom "card backs" (like palm trees, space themes, or classic patterns). You could often tweak the house rules for games like Blackjack (e.g., how many decks were used or if the dealer hits on a Soft 17).
