Number Munchers

Number Munchers is a classic educational computer game released by the Minnesota Educational Computing Consortium (MECC) in 1986. It became a staple in school computer labs throughout the late 1980s and 1990s alongside other iconic MECC titles like The Oregon Trail.
The player controls a green, frog-like creature named a "Muncher" on a grid filled with various numbers or mathematical expressions.
The game prompts the player with a specific mathematical rule at the top of the screen (e.g., "Multiples of 3", "Primes", or "Factors of 12"). The player must navigate the grid using arrow keys and "munch" (eat) all the correct numbers that fit the rule. Eating a correct number awards points, while eating an incorrect number costs a life. Once all valid numbers on a grid are cleared, the player advances to the next, increasingly difficult level. To add action and urgency, the game features hostile creatures called Troggles that randomly spawn on the edges of the grid and walk across it.n If a Troggle touches your Muncher, you lose a life.
Different Troggles have distinct behaviors—some move in straight lines, others change direction randomly, and some can even change or erase numbers on the board as they walk over them. Munchers can temporarily escape Troggles by stepping into safe spots or eating them if a specific power-up/mechanic allows.
