Description

Muzzle Velocity is a hybrid tactical strategy and first-person action game released for MS-DOS in 1996, developed by Digi4Fun Corp. It is best remembered for its unique, seamless blend of top-down theater-of-war strategy with direct, real-time tactical combat.
The game operates on two distinct levels. On the strategic level, players command entire divisions on a 2D map, managing troop movements, logistics, and unit placements. At any point, players can jump directly into the 3D cockpit or turret of an individual tank or armored vehicle to fight the battle in a first-person perspective.
It focuses on Western Front operations during WWII, featuring historical factions (US, British, and German forces) along with period-accurate armor, infantry, and artillery.
For a 1996 DOS title, the 3D engine was ambitious, featuring fully destructible environments where tanks could flatten trees, smash through fences, and knock down buildings to alter the battlefield.
When players were not manually piloting a specific vehicle, the remaining units relied on tactical AI to execute the orders issued on the map view.
