Description
Mushroom Mania is an early, arcade-style MS-DOS game released in 1983 by Arcadia Software. It is an explicit PC clone of Atari's massively popular
1981 arcade hit Centipede, designed to bring fast-paced shooter action to early IBM PC systems.
The player controls a shooter/cannon positioned at the bottom of the screen, restricted to moving within a small lower playfield. The playfield is
filled with mushrooms that block the player's shots and alter enemy movement paths. Shooting mushrooms requires multiple hits to clear them away.
A segmented insect (representing the "centipede") winds its way down from the top of the screen. When a segment hits a mushroom, it drops down a
row and reverses direction. Shooting a middle segment splits the insect into two smaller, independent segments, turning a field full of mushrooms
into a chaotic hazard. As a 1983 IBM PC game, it featured basic CGA (4-color) graphics and standard PC-speaker sound effects.
