Description
Jabato (1989) is an adventure game developed and published by Aventuras AD. This Spanish company was well-known for its text adventure games with static graphics, and "Jabato"
is one of their notable titles from what was known as the "Golden Age of Spanish Software" in the 1980s.
It is an adventure Game, specifically a text adventure with static graphics (sometimes called "interactive fiction" or "aventura conversacional" in Spanish). This means players
interact with the game by typing commands (like "get key" or "go north"), and the game responds with text descriptions, often accompanied by a static image illustrating the
current location or scene.
The game is based on the well-known Spanish comic book character Jabato. The story is divided into six parts, each with its own independent argument but subtly related to the
main plot.
It's set during the Roman Empire's splendor, with legions dominating the known world. In Hispania (Spain), Jabato is a legendary hero fighting evil. However, in the game, you
embody Jabato in a defeated state, imprisoned in a Roman jail, with his beloved Claudia held captive in a distant land. Your primary mission is to escape the Roman yoke,
find allies, and ultimately rescue Claudia from a fanatical Egyptian sect that intends to sacrifice her. This involves traveling across various parts of the Roman Empire and
into Africa.
