Description
The game Crown was released for MS-DOS in 1991. It was developed by Omegavision and published by Starbyte Software. The ultimate goal of Crown is to prove
your worth as a hero and navigate through a series of dangerous lands to claim the throne and become the King. To do this, you must successfully travel
through six different "countries" (which function as the game's levels). Each country presents a unique medieval-themed environment filled with hazards,
enemies, and platforming challenges.
It is a classic "Jump and Run" (Platformer). Unlike the more famous Defender of the Crown, which is a strategy game, Crown focuses on side-scrolling action
and timing. The game features knights, castles, and traditional fantasy-adjacent obstacles. You progress linearly through the six stages. Each stage is
referred to in the game files and documentation as a different "country" or "sample" that you must conquer. For its time, it featured colorful VGA graphics
that leaned into a distinct European art style typical of Starbyte's early 90s library.
