Car Builder, as the name suggests, Is a car building and design game. The player gets to be involved in every process of vehicle design.
A user-friendly interface allows experienced and novice players to efficiently build and design their dream car. Car Builder was developed
and published by Optimum Resource, Inc. in 1982 and runs on DOS and Apple II platforms. The player gets to design and modify intricate
details like engine type and placement, tire dimensions, brake type, and size and steering mechanism. The player can visit the testing
facility and test its effectiveness and safety features. Track tests are run on the cars to test how they perform uphills, downhills,
curves, etc. The tunnel test is used to test its aerodynamics and how effective the design is in battling strong winds. One can improve
upon their design based on the test results and recommendations from experts. Throughout the design process, an instructor reveals lots
of interesting facts and gives useful suggestions which is particularly helpful for young users. The player gets an ariel view of the
design process that allows for effective decision making. The interface is menu-driven and can be controlled using the keyboard.
The language is fairly easy and can be easily understood by children as young as five years old. The game provides useful insights into
the vehicle design process that could help users make informed decisions in real life. Car Builder is an entertaining yet educational game
that could ignite a passion for the automobile industry in children and adults alike.
