Description
The gameplay mechanics are completely identical to the arcade original. You control a strange creature (standing in for Q*bert) at the top of an isometric, 2D pyramid built out of 28
interlocking, three-dimensional cubes.
Your main objective is to jump from cube to cube. Every time you land on a block's top surface, it changes to a target color.
Once every single cube on the pyramid has been successfully flipped to the correct color, the level flashes, clears, and you advance to the next, much faster stage.
As you hop around, the screen constantly spawns hazards that fall from the top of the pyramid:
- The Snake: Standing in for the arcade's iconic purple snake, "Coily," a bouncing threat pursues you diagonally across the grid. If it corners you, you lose a life.
- Random Bouncers: Other ball-like characters and obstacles bounce randomly down the tiles, forcing you to constantly calculate your pathing two or three steps in advance.
- The Edge: Just like in Qbert*, the grid has no invisible walls. If you miscalculate an arrow key press or panic while fleeing the snake, you will hop right off the edge of the pyramid into
the void, resulting in an instant death.
