Battle Bugs

Epyx, Inc.
Automated Simulations was co-founded by Jon Freeman and Jim Conelley. The company was more of a strategy game developer and publisher at the time, going by the Company motto "Computer Games Thinkers Play." Most of their products were developed for Computers, most importantly the Apple II computer. In 1981, the company was much larger and "office politics" drove Jon Freeman out of the company, and he left to found Free Fall Associates with his wife, Anne Westfall. It was at this time that Jim Conelley also left and started his own company, The Conelley Group which was more of a game developing company, and they let Epyx publish the games they developed.

Description

Battle Bugs is a strategy game that is played real-time. The game is not entirely real-time as you are allowed to stop action for a bit any time. You have command over twenty-two varieties of insects that are to be directed against either another player or the computer. The game is a type of simulation of kids playing war-games. The weapons used are bottles, forks, sinks plates etc., the game looks and feels a little childish but the game is very functional with numerous strategic thinking required. Don't get fooled by the innocent looking game, it requires some serious use of the brain muscle and can be really difficult. In Battle Bugs there are many missions are time-limited and often objective based. The game has excellent sound and music and you get to hear bug voices and voiceovers. Overall, although the game may be a little difficult, it is really funny. The game can be categorized as a real-time simulation game with a high-level puzzle element to it. This is the perfect game for those of you who would like to play a challenging strategy game without a world war setting. There are around thirty levels of gameplay available to the player with many battles. There are some battles that can be skipped and some that you can come back to later on in the game and fight.
